The Miracle of Essential Oils

Often described as nature's gift to us, essential oils provide natural remedies for minor ailments, the beautifying of our bodies, and helps to aid in promoting positive emotions.  These oils are normally derived from plants using their flowers, stems, barks, roots and even sap.  Various parts of the plant are then distilled to extract the precious essence that is seemingly life giving.

What makes essential oils so special?  Maybe it's the fact that they can be found anywhere as they are naturally grown sometimes in farms or even in wild conditions.  Maybe it's the fact that essential oils can provide a multitude of physiological benefits as well as have the power to calm our soul.  Maybe it's the fact that the use of essential oils dates back to almost a thousand years and is already embedded in our history although no one exactly prove that they work much less how they work.  Whatever the case may be, there is no doubt that they provide a natural method of healing that can't always be found in synthetic compounds.

Take for example, the unique history of frankincense.  The use of frankincense dates back to more than 5000 years with one use directly being cited in the bible.  (Frankincense was one of the gifts presented to baby Jesus by the three wise men.)  At one time, the value of frankincense equaled that of gold!  It was noted for abundant healing properties including rejuvenating skin, treating acne, bacterial and fungal infections, and wounds and scars.  Frankincense was also used as a treatment for arthritis and joint pain.  In addition to all of that, frankincense was used as a cosmetic as well as for repelling mosquitoes, wheat moths, and sand flies.  Most notably, however, is the use of frankincense in spiritual practices.  Frankincense promotes the body's ability to quiet one's mind; slow breathing rates, and enhances meditation.  To think that all of this was found in a single plant!

The miracle of essential oils is this:  that we have already been provided with all of what we need for our physical and emotional healing.  Many of the ailments we suffer are the results of destructive emotions such as stress, fatigue, anger, loneliness and the like.  These emotions take a toll on our physical being and results in worsened conditions which we seemingly are unsure of how to cure.

The miracle of essential oils is that no matter what your physical condition may be, you can still receive positive benefits even though it may be something as small as reducing the amount of pain you experience.  Aromatherapy can help to eliminate negative emotions and reach a place of emotional balance to help you deal with any situation coming your way.  All it takes is a positive outlook on life - your life.  The effects may seem small to non-existent at first, but with time, may snowball into reversing some of the effects of the ailments you experience.  What if you received a report that your blood pressure lowered on your next trip to the doctor?

Before starting any aromatherapy regimen, consult with your doctor or aromatherapy practitioner.  Aromatherapy should also not be used as a substitute for any medical treatment.

Anxiety Attack Heart Problems

Anxiety attack heart problems are any problems related to the cardiovascular system of your body that are caused by anxiety or panic attacks. Due to the very nature of a panic attack, it is not surprising that anxiety attack heart problems are among the leading causes of heart attacks or other cardiovascular issues among North Americans today. This is not to say that an anxiety or panic attack does not have a heavy effect on other systems of the body as well, but it’s effect on the heart and blood flow is easily measured and quite noticeably dangerous.

A panic attack is a sudden onset of fear or other terror that causes frightening symptoms that can paralyze a person in the mood of the moment. Many people report the notion of being “frozen by fear” and an anxiety attack definitely resembles that to a large degree. Patients discuss shaking, trembling, chills, numbness in extremities, heart palpitations, and trouble breathing among other things that are caused by the great difficulty of a panic attack.

Anxiety attack heart problems are common because of the close association stress has with other heart problems. Anxiety can accompany any heart disease or cardiac condition that causes a drop in blood pressure because of this close relationship in systems and bodily functions. This, in fact, causes a sudden decrease in cardiac output, which is the amount of blood being pumped by the heart. Anxiety is also closely related to (but not the cause of) a condition called mitral valve prolapse or MVP.

Panic attacks generate a common human response to danger: the “fight or flight” response. This was said to evolve from early human types that either fled danger or took it on if they could. Fight or flight generates a lot of biological processes because of the energy the body needs to perform either task. The heart races, the blood quickens, the eyes function differently, senses are heightened, and other parts of the body begin to react in other ways such as muscles tightening, etc.

Anxiety attack heart difficulties can arise from the heart being told to work too fast by the brain, which is in charge of the “fight or flight” mechanism. At this point, the body often decides to simply shut down because it’s easier on the systems involved. For this reason, the heart once again runs the virtual gamut of both beating faster and beating slower; calming the body down and slowing blood flow one moment and then speeding the body up and creating more blood flow the next minute.

A Permanent Cure for Acne Scars?

Ask anybody who has ever suffered from acne what was the least enjoyable part of the whole experience and probably the most possible answer will be the scars - acne scars that remain long after acne is gone. If having acne is considered bad, then what about having acne scars for several years more?

If your acne has already progressed beyond the initial stage of whiteheads and blackheads and you now have pimples and scars on your face, then you have to do two things at the same time - get rid of pimples and get rid of acne scars.

Before discussing how to eliminate acne scars, you may want to know...

What are acne scars?

Acne scars are caused when pimples either get inflamed or do not heal fully. Acne scars are formed when at least one of the layers of healthy skin is injured. When the skin is damaged and bleeding, the body forms new tissue fibers at the place to heal the wound and stop the bleeding. It is these tissues that may appear as a scar.

So getting rid of scars requires that the scar tissue be replaced by healthy tissue by some process or method.

There are several methods to help acne scars but in practice very few of them may be very effective. And some methods may have side effects that you may want to be aware of before you start such a program.

Laser Resurfacing: A carbon dioxide laser burns away the damaged skin, layer by layer. The depth of penetration is controlled. As the outer layers of damaged skin is removed, new skin cells begin to form as the healing process starts and in a few weeks, a younger looking smoother skin surface begins to appear.

Dermabrasion: This uses a spinning diamond instrument or a rotating wire brush to wear down the outer layers of the skin that have been damaged. And when the skin starts healing, younger and smoother skin will replace the old skin removed by abrasion.

Chemical peels for acne scars: Acidic solutions are applied to the skin to peel away the damaged layers and the new skin that is formed is usually smoother. Chemical peels range from mild to deep penetration. Though chemical peels can be applied at home, it would be advisable to get a dermatologist to apply it.

Punch grafts: More suitable for deep and pitted acne scars, this method involves punching a hole to remove the scar and then removing a small piece of undamaged skin.

But the question you may want to ask is... do they work?

All of the treatments mentioned above seem to have a moderate success rate - while they seem to work well for others, some are less than delighted with their treatments. While results like these may be expected with any medical procedure, your face is a very important part of your life and you will want to be absolutely certain that any treatment will be beneficial to your sense of well-being.

Ballroom Dancing - Slow Fox Trot

There are several different theories on the origin of this ballroom dance's name.  The most often told story is that the dance was made popular by a young man named Harry Fox who was a vaudeville comedian with the Ziegfeld Follies.  Another story says that the dance is so named because of the similarity to an equestrian gait that was dubbed the Foxtrot by the military.  It is a gait where unlike a normal trot where the front left and rear right (or front right and rear left) legs are moved at the same time causing a somewhat jerky motion, the Foxtrot has the animal moving each leg one at a time making for a smooth trot that is easier on the animal and the rider.  This trot actually led to the development of a breed of horse known as the Missouri Fox Trotter.   Still a third suggestion is that the dance (in its earlier version) resembled the way a fox walks (with one foot in front of the other leaving a single track).

In the early fox trot the feet were placed in a single line one in front of the other.  It wasn't until the 1950's that this ballroom dance was revised to have two different dance lines, one for each foot.  Around 1922 the jerking, trotting steps of the dance were exchanged for a more relaxed movement called a Saunter.  By 1927 the jumpiness was gone and the steps were smooth and gliding and the dance was now referred to as a Slow Foxtrot.

This ballroom dance is composed of walking steps and side steps.  When on a crowded dance floor like in a night club short steps are used.  For ballroom dancing long, smooth, easy gliding steps combine to give the Fox Trot its unhurried appearance.

The Fox Trot is danced with the same type of hold that is used in the standard waltz, with a combination of long slow steps and short lively ones.  The timing of this ballroom dance is of great importance.   The slower steps are done on the heels while the quick steps are done on the toes.

The Fox Trot can be danced to most any music regardless of whether it is slow or fast.  In the 1920's the Fox Trot was embraced by America's youth.  They loved this ballroom dance, which started out as a bouncy trot-like step that had been incorporated into the vaudeville act of Harry Fox.  The Fox Trot has become one of the most loved ballroom dances to date.  It is also one of the hardest to learn.

There is also what is referred to as an American Smooth style of Fox Trot that differs in as much as the hold can be broken throughout the performance so you will see more open movements and underarm turns.

Ballroom dancing has undergone many changes and one of the most significant developments was the use of the quick and slow steps of the Fox Trot allowing the dancers more variety than the earlier one and two step dances.

Identifying Lower Back Pain Symptoms

Lower back pain is a common complaint not only in old age but also among much younger adults. What truly cause this element may never be exactly diagnosed and even experienced physicians and experts may overlook some causes underlying the condition. The patient may also find it hard to distinguish the location of the pain and may often be confused on where to start pinching the section of the body to temporarily relieve the pain.

The typical lower back pain symptom is excruciating pain felt somewhere in the back. There is no telling how one would identify the cause of pain without really undergoing medical examination or x-ray. However, even these two may not suffice, as there is a host of symptoms that are not supported with anatomical abnormalities. But still the pain is real and not psychological.

The problem often arises here. Since physicians don't find any physical symptoms with some forms of lower back pain, they may recommend their patients to a psychiatrist. Therefore, no true diagnosis is made therefor the condition is not properly addressed.

No one should be blamed for this, not even the doctor who emphasized that nothing is wrong.

Why this is the case is not yet comprehensively studied. But recent researches assert that trigger points may be responsible for this condition/s. Trigger points are individual areas in the body that are usually located nearest to the bones. The fact is, for each pain that is felt there are a number of trigger points responsible.

Most lower back pain would go away for around 3 months after the onset and will only recur as suddenly as it went. However there are symptoms that may indicate the severity of the condition and may require immediate medical intervention and surgery. The following symptoms may be as follows:

• Cauda equina syndrome or sudden bowl movement, which may not be linked to other conditions rather than the actual pain felt at the lower back. This syndrome may also manifest as progressive weakness of the legs. There can be no known cause for this except that the sciatic nerve that is located at the lower back down to the legs is impaired or irritated.

• Continuous low back pain

• Severe abdominal pain

• Sudden fever and chills without evidence of illnesses that normally come along with these two.

• Unexplained weight loss

Unlike with other ailments, lower back pain symptoms may vary from case to case and the severity of the case is also dependent on the individual states.
